Should I Have a Fat Brain? (and….a special offer!)
Yes – you definitely want to have a fat brain! Your brain is 60% fat!
Do you have any idea how important Omega-3 fatty acids are to the brain? If your Omega-3 levels are not optimum, you can make a few changes to your brain health and as a result, reduce systemic inflammation, pain, chronic disease risk and more!
In a recent study, researchers from the University of Pittsburgh found that higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids were directly connected to stronger working memory abilities in young adults. Children’s levels of Omega-3 fatty acids directly predict their ability to concentrate and learn in school. Increased Omega-3 index scores improve both memory and reaction time in young adults.
A National Institute of Health-funded study demonstrated a link between higher Omega- 3 levels and a higher volume of grey matter in the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory.
Reduce aging? A recent study by the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that you might be able to slow down the aging process of your body by as much as 65% by maintaining a high Omega-3 index. And what about the aging brain? Research has shown that having a high Omega-3 index and a low level of trans fat in your blood cells (that’s the bad kind of fat found in store-bought baked goods, crackers, cookies, etc.) can help protect your brain from the loss of volume and function that is associated with normal aging. Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial to maintaining healthy brain structure and reducing your risk of early cognitive decline and dementia.
Chronic pain and inflammation have been shown by many tests to be reduced by higher levels of Omega-3’s. Higher blood cell levels of Omega-3’s can be effective in inhibiting cell death, reconnecting damaged neurons, activating genes that repair damaged cells, and turning off genes that promote brain inflammation.
And now for you athletes. A study in the Journal of Sports Medicine says that high levels of Omega-3’s may improve athletic performance and recovery. Other sports-related Omega-3 studies have shown improvement in focus, reaction time, mood, and vigor.
Maintaining high Omega-3’s during pregnancy and breastfeeding is vital to a baby’s brain development. A higher Omega-3 index during pregnancy is associated with better child IQ scores and motor development. It may also support the gestation period and help reduce postpartum depression.
What Can You Do Now?
We have a simple blood test that can tell the status of your cell walls! This is quite amazing. The physician who developed this test studied the effect of Omega-3 fatty acids on the performance of soldiers in combat while he was in the Army in Iraq. The results were so impressive that he continued his research after leaving the Army and developed BrainSpan™. The name refers to the lifespan of the brain.
You place a drop of blood on a card and mail it to a lab. The lab test assesses the Omega-3 fatty acids that compose the walls of your blood cells. You then go online and do a short series of cognitive tests that measure your thinking skills.
This assessment tells us your risk for health problems and early signs of brain aging and poor brain health. It also tells us if you are producing too many pro-inflammatory chemicals which can lead to significant health problems including autoimmune disorders and heart disease.
Once we have the results, we can develop a program to improve any poor scores. If you have some scores that are not in the optimal range, you should be retested in three months to measure your progress. When you reach the “good” range you retest once a year.
Now it is possible to find out your health status on a cellular level! This is an amazing opportunity to really help you see, for real, how your body is doing and then be able to do something about it.
Who should have this test? Everyone with a brain!
Pregnant women, please find out the health of your cells. The baby’s brain and body develop in the womb based on your health. Your baby needs the right food and vitamins to develop correctly. If mom is deficient, the baby is, too.
The BrainSpan test is normally $199 but through August 31, 2019, we are offering the special price of only $69. Call and schedule an appointment for your BrainSpan test today!
