Tips for Getting Back on Track After the Holidays

I hope you had a great holiday season and that you had plenty of opportunities to spend time with special friends and family. Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to abolish unhealthy habits and get back to basics! Here are some simple tips to help you get started.

1. Reduce Stress… Returning to a daily schedule can be the first step towards getting back on track. Make sure to go to bed on time. Avoid alcohol. Get back to the hobbies that you enjoy. Add one more daily routine to your life – support your stress glands (called adrenals) so you can better tolerate stress. 2. Cut Out Overeating…Over the holidays we tend to skip meals, overindulge with others and add things to our diet that we would normally avoid. Now is a good time to look at what you’re eating and when, and get back to a healthy balance of lean protein, vegetables and a minimal amount of carbohydrates. And plenty of fresh water daily. Take a look at your portion sizes and reel in excess.

3. Be Active Daily…A daily activity can start out as simple as a walk around your neighborhood or the local mall. Every journey has its start, so don’t hesitate and get going! And when you get warmed up from daily walks, explore options for fitness classes in your community, from the local Y to senior centers. Daily activity will make a huge difference in your overall health and well-being.
