Dr. T’s Health Tip – Shoes, Wallets, Purses – Burbank Chiropractor
Greetings to you,
Here are some tips about shoes, wallets, purses and briefcases:
For women: If you wear high-heeled shoes for an extended length of time, this can increase the normal forward curve of the back and cause the pelvis to tip forward. This alters the normal position of the pelvis and spine that is necessary for the body to maintain a center of gravity. Tip: Always keep a pair of flat shoes with you in case you become uncomfortable or need to do a longer stretch of walking. Overall, one-inch heels or lower are usually best.
For men: If you are driving or sitting for long periods of time, remove your wallet or card holder from the back pocket of your pants. Sitting on your wallet or card holder for the entire day will create a pocket in the muscle next to the wallet, and whether your pants are tight or loose-fitting, can result in discomfort or pain.
For both women and men: If you carry a briefcase or purse, seek a spine-friendly one with a wide adjustable strap. Or purchase a separate strap and attach it. Ideally, the strap should be long enough to place over the head. This evenly distributes the bulk of the weight across the body. And if what you carry is overly heavy, take the time to empty unnecessary items from your bag.
Until next time…
Yours in health,
