Journal of Neurology Study Shows Olive Oil Use Reduces Stroke
Researchers from three French cities followed more than 7,000 people age 65 and older. They looked at how much olive oil they consumed and whether or not they had strokes. 148 stroke incidents occurred during the course of the study. After adjustment for dietary variables, physical activity, body mass index and risk factors for stroke, a lower incidence for stroke with higher olive oil use was observed. Compared to those who never used olive oil, those with intensive use had a 41% lower risk of stroke. Olive oil was used for cooking and dressing.
