The Truth About Sick Headaches

Food and toxins – and the toxins in food – can cause some pretty horrendous headaches. Let’s take a look at a few.

Liver or digestion headaches are often called “sick headaches.”

You feel mild nausea, fatigue, and you may think you are getting sick. A liver that is not detoxifying the body or a digestive system that is not working well creates inflammation and a generalized headache. Once the inflammatory chemicals are reduced, the headache goes away.

Some people suffer from this type of a headache on a regular basis, but it is mild so it gets ignored. Detoxifying the system will help to eliminate this type of a headache. By supporting the digestive system with enzymes and supplements, you can keep this type of a headache at bay.

Believe it or not, the most common food allergies or triggers are chocolate, wine (red) or other alcohols, avocados, bananas, nuts, tomatoes, onions, cola, coffee, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, MSG, nitrates and nitrites, sodium benzoate, and everything else you cannot pronounce.

Low blood sugar can also cause a generalized headache. You may also feel hungry or faint. If you eat and the headache goes away, it is likely a blood sugar headache.

An overgrowth of yeast in your systems can cause headaches. There is always yeast naturally in our digestive tract. When the yeast grows out of control, it can produce chemicals that trigger headaches. These can be tough to control until the yeast in under control. If you go on a “Candida Diet” and the symptoms improve, it is likely caused by yeast.

To find out what type of a headache you have, we look at the symptoms, when the headaches occur, what happened 24 hours before a headache came on, etc. Keeping a Food Diary can really help us see if there are any triggers or common factors causing your headaches.

Once you have isolated the types of headaches you have and any triggers, you can start resolving them.

The next step is for you to have an evaluation. In our office, we do a history of your condition and a physical examination. We check the nerves in the skull and body, balance and coordination, spinal flexibility and joint motion, muscular quality, the jaws and then the health of the organs that often produce headaches: the adrenals, liver and digestive system.

Once we identify what your body needs, a program is designed to help you heal. This may include spinal alignments, detoxifying your body, getting your jaw or sinuses cleared up, and identifying and avoiding food triggers and allergic foods.

Give us a call and make an appointment. We’ll find the source of your headaches and create a wellness plan especially for you!
